Antique BEGGING DOG Esdeve Sarreguemines France MAJOLICA Pitcher Toby Jug

Size8.5" high, 6" long when measuring handle to front feet. Top opening at back of head is round and 1.75". Base 4" long at widest. Handle is 4.75" long.

A wonderful pitcher, whimsical & very unique. These are very rare to find, especially in such magnificent condition.

Features an anthropomorphic dog sitting up on its hind feet and begging with its mouth open and pink tongue out. Charming and very sweet. The dogs tail serves as a handle.

Gorgeous coloration, rich and deep Majolica style. Cream colored base with rich deep browns on the tail, spots, and ears of the dog. Eyes and nose are black, tongue is light pink

Nice details, such as the musculature of the dog, wrinkles in the skin, and even little toenails.

This glaze is watertight, so the pitcher could be used as a beautiful tabletop vase or a drinks pitcher.

With a large and exaggerated solid handle

Marked on base with an impressed BCH1. The Sarreguemines Company had variable marks such as this, especially on early pitchers produced in the mid to late 1800s.

Excellent antique condition- there is very light crazing throughout the glaze over the entire piece as to be expected for age. The crazing has not darkened or foxed and there are no darkened or yellowed areas. As close to pristine as can be achieved. No nicks chips cracks scratches damage or repair. No fading to glaze, no dullness to surface.

This is a stunning piece- great for a collector
