• Many musicians work at a particular style of music and keep at it until they finally cease. Not the violinist and singer Andrew Bird, however; his music is a savory stew of assorted styles and approaches. THRILLS, for one, has the scope of the Squirrel Nut Zippers (members of which appear here), mixing aspects of swinging jazz, bluegrass, folk, gypsy, rock & roll, New Orleans R&B, and whatever else they feel works. But THRILLS is not a case of everything-but-the-kitchen-sink. Bird and company play with humor (his lyrics are cynical and/or whimsical, depending on ones mood), passion, and devotion.
