ITEM DESCRIPTION: | ![]() |
Here is an Absolutely Gorgeous & Ultra-Rare Limited Edition Vintage Mid Century Circa 1955-65 Italian Halftone Lithograph (not a more-modern reproduction) Depicting a White Horse at a Stream and Two Native Tahitian Riders on Horseback in the Background, titled, “Le Cheval blanc” (From French: “The White Horse”), after the famous 1898 oil on canvas painting by the world-famous listed painter, ‘Paul Gauguin’ (French, 1848-1903), whose printed signature, ‘P. Gauguin, 98’, appears lower-middle in the image area, and whose original painting used to be in the collection of the Jeu de Paume in Paris, but is currently in the Musée d’Orsay also in Paris who state about the painting: Publisher & Print Info: The publisher name and location, ‘Arti Grafiche Ricordi S.P.A. - Edizioni Beatrice D’Este - Milano’, appears printed lower-left in the bottom outer margin area (near edge); the artist’s name, title and location, ‘P. Gauguin: “Le Cheval blanc” Parisi – Jeu de Paume’ (previous location), appears printed lower middle; and the printing info with edition number, ‘Printed in Italy – 5900/10551’, appears printed lower-right respectively. The inventory number, ‘F1302’, appears printed on the back in the upper-right corner written in pencil below the artist’s name in pencil. The publishers, Arti Grafiche Ricordi S.P.A. Edizioni Beatrice D’Este did the bulk of their publishing from 1956-1973, and appears to have been defunct by around 1985 or so. The Litho is on a nice medium-heavier weight ivory-colored wove paper stock. Size & Condition: The size with wide margins is 32-7/16” x 25-3/16”, The image size is 26-1/2” x 17-3/16”. The Litho is in Excellent Rare+ condition for its vintage age with Absolutely No Color Fade—Simply Beautiful! It’s as beautiful as the day it was printed and is as ‘Mint’ as any collector could hope to find its original never-framed condition. No foxing evident! No real or significant damage at all on this gorgeous piece with the small & negligible exceptions of: Only one ultra-tiny 1/2” tear on the upper-left outer margin edge, which is repaired from behind with archival tape for protection and is completely negligible since the outer margins can easily be trimmed off or matted & framed out; Negligible/no noticeable toning of the stock from age, especially amidst the ivory color of the paper stock itself; Very minimal (only a handful) of slight & small crescent-creases and a couple small crinkle-creases scattered here & there in the image rea, which are mostly only lightly noticeable from the back and aren’t even really worth mentioning; other minimal & slight small creases scattered here & there in the outer margin areas, along a couple outer margin edges, as well as in a few outer margin corners with some associated small dog-ear bends, and a small & completely negligible scratch on the back of the litho which lightly impressed into the paper and is lightly visible from the front in the bottom outer margin area middle-right—all outer margin issues are completely negligible as well, as previously mentioned, and can easily be trimmed off or matted & framed out; and a handful of ultra-tiny printing ink-offset specks done at the time of printing, scattered here & there in the middle-right outer margin area which aren’t worth mentioning either. This beautiful vintage litho has never been framed which is always more desirable to collectors since it has never been exposed to older non-archival materials, matburn or lightfade. |
