This is a Stunning Example of a Signed and Dated Oil on Artists Board by John McKirdy Duncan (1866-1945) of Perched Bird (Nightingale?) 1894. The painting is signed lower left and is mounted as an oval. John Duncan studied under the botanist Patrick Geddes in Edinburgh from 1892 to 1897 when he would have painted this study. He also studied in London and exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Watercolourists.

This is an extremely well painted picture but it does have some background foxing (please see photos).

The painting is oval in shape with a height of 8½ inches. It also has an oval mount.
