I have a very large collection of books spanning many topics. A massive gathering of Philip K Dick titles and editions, as well as fine press, signed limited editions, modern firsts, radical movement and conceptual art items. I encourage you to browse my store and categories for a wide range of unique, quality offerings.
EXTRAS: Laid in is the original Pantheon marketing materials, printed in 2 colors on the same special paper, illustrated, outlining the production (the title changed a little upon publication), with a smaller insert advertising Daphnis and Chloe, Longus. ALSO included is a large write-up announcing The Eclogues of Vergil (woodcuts by Maillol). This too is printed in 2 colors, illustrated, on special made paper.
About: A limited edition of only 550 numbered copies. Numbers 1-50 were specially bound by the noted German binder Gerhard Gerlach. This is a catalog of all the woodcuts of Aristide Maillol. These include early and unknown woodcuts, first conceptions, rejected engravings, his famous illustrations for Virgil, Ovid, Longus, Verhaeren and Velaine. The book is printed in 2 colors, with some engravings in black and others red. The engravings are presented in their original size, and only ONE to a page.
Some highlights:
- Printed on specially made paper
- Numbered 26 (of) 50 copies, specially bound by Gerhard Gerlach
- A lengthy illustrated introduction
- A full catalog of the Aristide Maillol woodcuts
- 162 plates
- Envelope containing 5 original Maillol woodcuts housed in the rear paste-down pocket
Condition: SEE IMAGES. This is a gorgeous copy. The top and bottom spine ends show a slight compression as well as well as peeling to the ENDS. This is cosmetic only. SEE IMAGE. The spine gilt titling is still bright, and front board illustration still sharp. If not for the spine ends, Id actually grade this as NEAR FINE. The binding is tight, square, and very firm. You can feel the strength of the binding when holding this book. Light edge rubbing. Internally, clean and free of markings. Printed in 2 colors, all print still vivid. No staining, soiling or foxing. Book still has protective band/wrap around the boards as well as the publisher box it came in. The box is in good condition, SEE IMAGES. Book is preserved in an acid-free archival bag. Gift or collection quality.
I will happily answer any further questions.
Making offers: I certainly can appreciate wanting a better deal, and Ive made offers myself on my own purchases. To be up front, if and when you make an offer, I will automatically reject crazy low "give it away" offers. Best not to waste our time. With a more reasonable offer, I will review current pricing for other comparable items out there and either accept, counter or decline submitted offer. If in that review, I find my pricing is already LOW and outdated, I may then increase the price to bring more in line with other offerings. I spend a lot of time sourcing the best offerings, preparing the listings with images and clear descriptions, and price fairly in MOST cases.
I remain grateful to all who consider my offerings, and I look forward to serving your needs respectfully and with success.
